Poem

In the soberest of sorrows

5/24/26

In the soberest of sorrows

I set sail against the grief

To search for sun or fading light

Like shadows on a reef.

In the heaviest of heartaches

I can carry more and more

Loaded up onto my back

Or pulled across the floor.

I bring myself to misery

And then go home again

To see those tiny faces smile

Who shelter me from pain.

Send happiness to follow me

Send flowers and balloons

This time I’ll soak and drink them in

And hang them like festoons.

What used to be a hindrance

Indifference from inside

Let time slow down and fester

And allowed the sun to rise.

Give me this daily sunshine

Give me this daily Bread

And let me share what I know true

Living happily instead.

Read it. Don't read it. I don't really care anymore.
