I write poetry.
I write poetry because there is poetry.
When I look around me, I can see poetry.
When I see a black car, then a white car, then a black car, then a white car,
that’s God’s way of showing me poetry.
When I see two black cars and two white cars and then two black cars,
I see symmetry.
And when I see symmetry, I think of poetry.
Not because it rhymes,
but because it forces my mind to see that things,
even though seemingly random,
put there by forces far beyond our control (or our understanding),
can evoke a thought, a deeper thought.
Not just about six cars (four black and two white),
but of an orientation,
and that orientation can lead to another thought,
a new system, a new way of doing things and seeing things.
That new way of doing things and that new way of seeing things is life.
We live it.
But when you see it and when you understand it,
that is poetry.
