Poem

These are not they

These are not they

Who would seem to obey

In a moment of change

They display what they may

To hiss with disdain

At the slightest refrain

Near field or down range

When they hear it again

New dogs with new sticks

Heel and then try new tricks

When their faces oft strain

Try some more till they stick

To an old dog today

On this sun speckled day

To obey would seem strange

And to growl is to play

Run off now and vamp

To the place you decamp

Retell the interchange

While your will can still stamp

Dear boys I can reckon

How your youth strongly beckons

But my face will not feign

Though my temper might quicken

Do not count it across

Or a gain or a toss

For I’m not a quick gain

But a time tattered loss

Forget that you saw me

I’ll forget that I saw thee

And what once felt like a bane

Was then nothing to see

Read it. Don't read it. I don't really care anymore.
